A Valentine's Date

Who: Athrun Zala and Euphemia li Britannia
What: The engaged couple spend the day together. It's the Feast of Valentine, after all.
Where: Tsuwano province -- first in the capital's cemetery, then in the town of Rishiri.
When: February 14th. All day.

Athrun sat waiting in the living room of the estate. He was ready to go, but still apprehensive about the whole thing. The idea of having fun on the anniversary of his mother's death felt off to him, even if he should be trying to move on from her death. He was fine with visiting her grave, at least.

Athrun tried to distract himself by looking outside. It looked like a beautiful day for mid-winter, though the islands had mild winters anyway. It would be a good day for this sort of excursion. All he had to do was wait for Euphemia to finish getting ready.

Okay, she knew she couldn't defeat him like that. So, between her giggles, she will give a small attack as a decoy and then a big wave coming at him!

Athrun barely got his cape around to block that big splash. Once he dropped it, though, he retaliated with a big one of his own!

Even Euphemia couldn't block that one so she ended completely wet for that one. She was still laughing, but it was time to call for a truce.

"I admit my defeat. You win, Athrun."

By this time, Athrun himself was also laughing. He straightened up and offered Euphemia his hand.

"You should have known better than to challenge a soldier." His tone was teasing.

"You might be right, but that does not stop me from trying!" She replied with a giggle, as she took Athrun's hand with a smile.

And then pulled him down to the water with her again.

"WHOA!" Try as he might, Athrun couldn't maintain his balance and fell. But not only did he fall, he just barely stopped himself from falling right on top of his fiancée. As it was, he was on all fours over her.

Euphemia did not calculate that outcome, as she is now leaning all her back in the sand with her beautiful pink hair spread on it. Athrun was on top of her and even so close to her face, she could not help but to blush at that, though she did not stop looking at him even after that.

The waves kept coming at them slowly, though she didn't seem to notice it. Perhaps she was too busy with this new situation she was in like to pay attention to that.

"A-Athrun..." Her voice was low, more like a whisper to him.

Likewise, Athrun found himself staring. At such range, it was impossible to not notice just how beautiful Euphemia really was. The sight caused his heart to race. For a moment, he was assaulted by the temptation to just drop down and kiss her...

...But logic prevailed, helped by the sound of a seagull hitting the water. Athrun pushed back and landed on his backside before lifting a knee to climb back to his feet. "I-I'm sorry. I hand't expected that, so..."

Her bright, purple eyes couldn't stop staring at him. For a long time, Euphie didn't seem to notice anything beside that Athrun was in top of her. When did her heart start racing like that? She didn't know.

But she did know that she came back to herself the moment Athrun pushed back and separated himself from her. At his apologize, she smiles a bit, even with the blush in her face.

"It's alright, Athrun. Do not apologize, please."

"Well, at the very least, let me help you up." Athrun quickly climbed to his feet and offered her his hand. "I think we've had enough antics for the afternoon."

She accepted the hand again, allowing him to help him without tricking him. She nodded at that with a big smile.

"You are right. I think we deserve a nice break from this game."

Once Euphemia's hand was securely within Athrun's grip, he pulled her back to her feet. Without letting go, he began to lead the way back to the carriage.

"I have a pair of towels in the carriage, since I thought something might happen. We can wrap ourselves in them for the trip back to the manor."

She followed him calmly. She didn't seem to mind that he was holding her hand.

"That sounds wonderful for me." Euphemia said with a lovely smile. "Athrun, may I ask you something?"

Athrun turned his head to look at Euphemia, a curious expression on his face. "Of course. What is it?"

She made a pause to look at him. "How did you feel today? Did you have fun...?"

The question surprised Athrun. He continued to walk, while he mulled it over for about a minute. Then, he smiled. "yes. I did have fun today. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful time, especially on today of all days."

Watching him smile made Euphemia felt so happy that she even smiled back.

"You do not need to thank me for anything. If you are happy, so I am."

"Still, I'm happy to see that I'm in such good hands."

As they reached the carriage, the driver handed each of them a towel. Athrun quickly wrapped his around himself.

"You flatter me, Athrun."

She did the same once she got hers. Despite her looks, she was quite happy with the whole situation.

"Either way, I'm glad." With that, Athrun helped Euphemia up into the carriage and climbed in himself. Once the door closed, it began its journey back to the capital.

"I should thank you as well, for this wonderful day."

"It was my pleasure."

She smiled happily at him and decided to help to dry his hair with the towel next to him.

That caught Athrun by surprise. However, once Euphemia had started, all he could do was just sit there and deal with it.

"...Uh."

She chuckled at that. "I do not want you to catch a cold."
