How Engaged Couples Bond
Who: Roy Mustang and Cornelia li Britannia
What: Fighting off assassins. Possibly some Rift monsters, too.
When: Before the assault on Imperial City
Where: Poemond
Warnings: Lots and lots of fire, swording, and witty banter dripping with subtext.
Poemond's castle held two VIPs. One was a general, and the other was a colonel and her fiancé. Both commanding officers had plenty of live battle experience and were clever tacticians. It made for a ripe opportunity.
Which is why a small group of cultists were sneaking their way into the castle, intent on an assassination. Sneaking past the guards was no problem, and it didn't take them long to locate the two officers' quarters.
They decided to go after Cornelia first. She held the higher rank, and they believed that she meant more to Roy than the other way around. Once she was eliminated, he'd despair too much to properly fight back...or so they thought.

So when these cultists, cunning as they were, thought it was a good idea to sneak into her room, Cornelia was all too eager to greet them with a few shots from her blade. To be fair, she tried to handle it quietly, but they just were too good at dodging the sword part.
All of this in her pajamas too. Geez. At least kicking ass was a lot more fun than reading reports of goods received and passed out to various units.

Roy paused, and listened. Those were unmistakably gunshots. And those other sounds...someone -- no, make that multiple people were wielding blades. And, to make matters worse, they sounded like they were coming from the general's quarters.
Without wasting a second, Roy threw a case open and pulled out a pair of gloves, quickly sliding them on. Once they were on he threw open the door and sprinted over to his fiancée's quarters, even if they weren't that far away. He threw the door open, flung out his left arm, and snapped.
A thin line of small explosions traced its way through the room. However, the assassins were too nimble to be hit by a simple transmutation. Oh, well, there was plenty more where that came from.
Then Roy caught sight of Cornelia. She had her weapon drawn, as he suspected, but what he hadn't expected was for her to be in her pajamas. Of course, Roy himself was in an undershirt and his uniform pants, but still.
"You decided to throw a pajama party and you didn't invite me?"

Flipping her hair over her shoulder, her goal to keep up with Mustang became the primary one, ruling over the instinct to survive.
"I suppose I can permit you to heat things up a bit though."

"I'm surprised you're looking for heat in the middle of spring, though."

With that, she moves to strike at one of the assassins as though she was going to annihilate the very thought of marrying Mustang.

One of Roy's blasts finally struck true. The assassin was left a charred corpse, which fell to the floor.
"But falling asleep together in the same room? That's still innocuous enough."
no subject
"Mustang, you do have the second best quarters in this area, don't you? I suppose a game of musical beds is in order."

Once the assassin's attention has been snagged by the other party, Cornelia will move in for what she believes will be quite the killing blow.

The assassin turned in time to avoid a blow that would immediately kill him, though the wound was still fatal. However, as he fell to the floor, he pulled a rune out and applied his blood to it. A portal opened up in that spot -- one leading to the Rift. The moaning of zombies could be made out.
"...We've got a problem here."
