War Council
Who: All military officers and specialists of Amestris
Where: The Council Room in Central
What: War Council
When: Shortly after the death of the Emperor
All Amestrian military officers and specialists received a summons via telegraph to report to the Fuhrer's office following the death of the Emperor. Upon entering the council room, Fuhrer King Bradley could be found sitting stoically at the head of the table. At precisely 5:00 PM, the council doors closed, admitting nobody else.
"Gentlemen. Ladies," Bradley began. "In the wake of the Emperor's demise, it seems once again it is the duty of the Right Hand to step up and take charge. Sawa is already posturing to take the Imperial Throne, but Mitsunari Ishida is not suited for the task, and with the Emperor out of the way I do not doubt we will face Zeon soon."
"General Cornelia, you and Colonel Mustang will move into the Imperial City and establish order. Filter your troops through Werrand and strike at Galumond."
"Suzaku, you are now promoted to the rank of Colonel. You and Edward are to annex Jergeth and bring it under Amestrian control. Major, you will move through Jergeth and strike at Ibenna. With luck, the governor who thinks he is a king will be taken quickly and the war will not be protracted."
"General Armstrong, you are in charge of defense. I am recalling Major Kisaragi, divert most of your forces to the Western front. You will have command of Xellos as well. I expect Char will move quickly, so let's destroy him before he thinks he has a chance of defeating us. That is all, any questions?"

The Major, sitting on the right side of the table, leaning down on his seat, raises a hand as if he was mimicking a grade school student. Placing it down, he clasps both hands together and leans forward, addressing the Fuhrer now without being too casual.
"Colonel Suzaku is talented to be sure, but he is still inexperienced. Why, this will be his first true war, wouldn't it? I would like to ask as a senior officer that I be able to brief and advise him on tactical matters.
Of course, I wouldn't dream of not allowing the boy to prove his own merit. His strategies will be his own in the end."

It would be prudent for us to prepare for such unexpected factors, mein Fuhrer."

"Who will I be commanding? Removing my men from defending against the Rift would be difficult logistically, and leave us weak in that area."

"Shall I move out immediately?"

Colonel?
The thought rang inside his head for quite a while before his brain caught up with the order the Fuhrer gave him.
Even with the help of the Major, he felt that this was too sudden. There should be more capable men than him, so...
"While I'll accept this decision, I'm afraid I have to ask about your reason for choosing me."
Even if he had to prove his worth to regain the Kururugi name, he doesn't want to be pitied for that...
That event.

"Understood, sir. I will give General Britannia the best support I can muster."

"You'll get to see that example first hand fairly soon."

Xellos nods, and gives a slight bow. "Very well, General. I shall be waiting," he answers, then slips away and moves to leave the room.

Olivier turns back to Bradley, waiting for his attention. "If I may ask one more question, sir."

[Awkward, but he's going to just continue.]
This is too sudden for me.

[The Major, sitting forward in his side of the desk with his hands clasped together, speaks.]
Had it not been for your valor during my wedding, I would not be sitting here today. You fought off the vampire Alucard in a tremendous display of skill and bravery. From the bottom of my heart, Colonel, I am grateful to you.
Please, don't shy away from a well-deserved reward.

It depends on the person, I suppose. Lady Kushana does have a legitimate claims, although the heresy claims are troubling.

If that is your wish, then I shall accept it.
[Who knows, maybe this new position will enable him to be in battles more often.]
