Party time and more [Action]

[In a ballroom at Central City.]

The auction was done and a hefty pile of wealth had been gathered to help pay for the reconstruction of Amestris in the wake of the devastating undead invasion. All that was left at this point was the after party, and EVERYONE has been invited. The majority of the party has moved to a huge ballroom, complete with an in house orchestra, several tables of light snacks and drinks, a large dancing area, tables around the edges of the room, and servants with trays of drinks making sure no one goes long without a glass. Brag about your newest acquisition, seeth with jealousy at the guy who bid more on the piece you wanted, enjoy fine food and drinks from across the empire, get drunk, dance, have fun. Mr. Wayne is footing the bill tonight.

[Elsewhere, later that evening...]


A dark figure edges close to the tall wall surrounding the manor belonging to the mysterious man known only as The Major. It produces a grappling hook from under its cloak, and is perched atop the wall in short order to get a better look at what it has to contend with here.

"Zeon!?" he sputtered, as if Light had just suggested he marry a girl from another planet. "Wait, doesn't Prince Char have a younger sister? You can't possibly be thinking I would... no, that's out of the question! And too much starch gives me indigestion," he finished petulantly. "I have a very sensitive stomach!"

"He does have a younger sister, doesn't he? An excellent idea, my lord! I shall make arrangements immediately."

"The really impressive information will come when some people decide to tip their hands, like the Governor of Sawa arguing with the Major of Amestris over there."

"If you're ever in Camelot, be sure to look me up. I'll give you the tour."

She looked over, her face losing a bit of the playful light it had. "My, that is an interesting combination."

Mitsunari, who had never met the Prince's sister, simply visualized Char with pigtails and a dress. Carrying a bushel of potatoes.

It was utterly horrifying.

"I... I think I'm going to need another drink," he croaked. "Something stronger than champagne this time. Preferably poison."

At this point, the host decided it was time to do something before these two actually come to blows.

"Sounds like quite a heated debate over here. This IS supposed to be a party, you know."

"The young governor has a temper, allowing a man like the Major to get the best of him like that. Really, though, I'm surprised the Major's holding his own as well as he is. You can smell the blood on the man's hands from a mile away."

"Ah, if it isn't the good Major," Delacroix said, approaching with his own glass of wine. "How fares the wall?"

Spotting Kallen, Light certainly recognizes her. Refilling his glass, he approaches.

"Ms. Stadtfeld, I presume?"

Light laughs and passes his liege a particularly strong brandy.

"Your Holiness."

Giving the man a smile and a laugh, he raises his glass of wine towards his direction. It's been some time since his golden eyes laid eyes on one of his oldest friends. The man has aged quite well while the Major hasn't at all. Regardless, it's always pleasant to see a friend.

"My forces have everything under control. We are just as capable with a defensive battle as much as we are an offensive battle. And how fares the papal office?"

"No better or worse than usual," Delacroix replied. "The hunt for heretics continues and the flock is restless with concern. 'Tis my hope the quelling of the restless dead will soothe the fears of the faithful."

"But it's often when the believers are afraid the most that they turn to God and the Church for solace, isn't it?" the Major asks. He would have liked to add in more of his own commentary, but this was quite enough in front of a man like the Pope. This was a party and it was best not to draw more attention than they already have simply through their presence together.

Batman grabbed Kallen by the back of her shirt as he sprinted past them. "Come on!"

Kallen blinked, turning towards Light.

"Ah! Mr. Yagami!"

"And the church stands ready to receive them," Delacroix replied. "Even still, we prefer less dangerous means to bring in the faithful."

"I wasn't expecting to see you here. Is your father all right?"

As Batman grabbed at Kallen, she immediately shouted, "Get off! I'll move faster on my own!"

Which, given her teleportation? Was probably the truth.

"Dangerous means, I'm afraid, are the only way those divine binary opposites can be established. 'God' is good and those who would wreak violence against those who confide in him are 'bad'," he says, but once again, he stops here before giving a more lengthy criticism of the Church as he would be tempted to. Although he couldn't care less about faith, he can certainly speak in detail about his apathy. He sips from his champagne a little before proceeding.

"I think such times are perfect to hold a wedding."

"Indeed, a bit of good cheer can bolster the spirits of the people immensely. I trust you have some goals to that end in mind?"

"Do you mean to say beyond fulfilling both my country and my heart?" asks the Major. The words were certainly not serious and those who knew the Major especially would understand that. .

That's a shame. The Major would have liked to see the Regent of Sawa do something unnecessary. He seemed so close to his breaking point too. With a shrug, the Major gives up for now.

"Indeed! Why, this is a time for us to celebrate and be drunk with merriment at all the festivities. However did we start this in the first place?"

The guards had difficulty seeing, but after hearing Batman and Kallen's voices, they started shooting at their direction. The shots were clumsy, of course, and their aim was hardly focused. It was until they had to reload when they would be put out of commission until their eyesight returns.
