Red Comet vs. Black Mage

Who: Char and Black Mage
Where: The streets of Imperial City
When: Immediately after Winter Court
What: A bored royal volunteers to hunt down a thug

After being dismissed from courtly duties, Char is surprisingly quick to dismiss his own attendants to their own affairs and start making good on the promise he'd made to the Emperor. He's absolutely aware that tracking down a simple killer is far beneath his station as a Prince, and rather revels in the novelty. It's been years since he fought someone properly, man-to-man, and he finds his sword hand itching for action.

After changing from his pressed uniform into a plain but well-tailored burgher's suit and the darkened glasses he likes to wear on the bright sea or when pretending he can be incognito, Char heads out into the streets for a winter stroll. He has no particular plan of investigation into the killings beyond asking a few bartenders - sadly, he doesn't have shabby enough clothes to get into the establishments that would really know these things, but he's confident that his latent magical instincts, at least, would guide him in the right direction. He walks along, scowling slightly at the waste of perfectly good crystal that was being used to keep the streets clear of snow and making sure his sword, Nightingale, and a couple of backup weapons are secure under his cloak.

His faith in his prescient abilities, it turns out, is not entirely unfounded, as he walks past an alleyway and catches a glimpse of something odd...
